Week 16 was one of the more interesting non-themed weeks. Went down to the wire in four of the games. Two large winners and one who went too far...
Kristen on 12/23 took the $68K deal with four cases left even though the top two cases were $500K/$100K. Kristen would have opened the $500K case next.
Gloria on 12/24 took the $95K deal with four cases left. Gloria could have gotten a $201K bank offer with two cases left.
Vanessa on 12/25 declined the $18500 bank offer with three cases left and $500 as the second-highest case. Vanessa took the $39K deal with two cases left, but she had the $100K in her case #4.
Theo on 12/26 declined the $24K bank offer with three cases left and $100 as the second-highest case, but opened the $100K case on his next pick. Theo took the $40 deal with two cases left.

2009 started off with a bang as Week 17 resulted in the second $200K winner. Reggie on 1/1 made a gutsy move by declining the $81K bank offer with three cases left and $25K as the second-highest case. Reggie took the $202K deal with two cases left.

There wasn't a theme week during the entire month of December. The first full week of 2009 broke the five-week drought with Newlywed Week on Week 18. All the contestants were newlyweds with both onstage, so 44 people playing. Record lows were set on the last show of the week:
$80 bank offer with six cases left. $4 bank offer with two cases left. $10 won in the case.

Week 19 (January 12th) of Syndicated Deal or No Deal was Splendia Week. If the $10K Splendia case was opened, $10K was added to the next bank offer.
Week 19 was probably the worst week so far in Season 1. Two people only had the $10K Splendia case as their highest case with eight cases left. The most amount won during the week was $17,500 and the other four contestants won $10K only because of the Splendia case.

Good news to hear:
LOS ANGELES - January 28, 2009 - NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution and Endemol USA's five-day-a-week version of "Deal or No Deal" hit season high ratings in both households and total viewers in the latest national weekly syndication ratings.
"Deal or No Deal," which is the #1 new first-run series in syndication this season, scored its all-time high 2.5 HH GAA rating, for the week of January 12, 2009, according to Nielson Media Research. "Deal" also hit its season high in total viewers, averaging 3.6 million viewers for the week. The hit series hosted by Howie Mandel, also tied its season high in Adults 25-54, averaging a 1.2 in the key demo.
"Since its launch in September, 'Deal' has grown more than 30% nationally and continues to improve time periods for our local station partners," says Barry Wallach, President NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution.
Hosted by Mandel, who continues to host NBC's primetime version of "Deal or No Deal," the new syndicated edition is sold in more than 97% of the U.S. for its first season.

Week 23 (February 9th) wasn't bad. There were a couple high winners, as one contestant had the $500K in his case and a couple others gambled with three cases left.
Pat on 2/9 took the $86K deal with four cases left but the final two cases would have been $100K and $500K. Pat had the $500K in his case #7.
Tiffany on 2/10 declined the $53K bank offer with three cases left and $10K as the second highest case. Tiffany took the $101K deal with two cases left.
Gia on 2/11 declined the $41K bank offer with three cases left but opened the $100K case next. Gia declined the $20K bank offer with two cases left but her new case #8 had $10 in it.

The first 24 weeks of Syndicated Deal or No Deal has now been shown and it's time for a one-week break before new episodes resume in March.
Overall, I like the format of the syndicated Deal or No Deal show, but one thing that irritates me is how badly The Banker lowballs the bank offers with four, three, or two cases left. Seems to be more glaring that the primetime version. Yeah, the syndicated version can't afford to give out as much money, but it still looks bad.
Case in point: This week a contestant made a big gamble and declined the $23500 bank offer with four cases left and $500K/$100 as the top two cases. He was successful on his gamble, but the next bank offer went up only to $36K. It should have been at least $50K, IMHO...

Week 25 (March 2nd) of Syndicated Deal or No Deal was Lucky Listerine Week where the $7500 case was replaced by a vacation trip worth $7500. A different vacation destination (Hawaii, British Columbia, Swiss Alps, Alaska, and South Africa) was won by whoever had the Listerine case.
Friday's contestant had the Listerine case but did not win the South Africa trip because she had taken the $54K deal with six cases left.
The big winner of the week won $103K but had the $500K in her case.

Week 26 (March 9th) of Syndicated Deal or No Deal was Firefighters Week. Tameka and Patricia were in firefighter outfits. The week got off to a hot start with a $85K winner on Monday, but there could have been a $98K winner on Wednesday as well... Monday's contestant got a record $78K third-round bank offer.
Craig began Firefighters Week on 3/9 by keeping the top five cases in play with eight cases left and getting a record $78K bank offer. Craig took the $85K deal with four cases left but he had $500K in his case #21.
Kate on 3/11 declined the $98K bank offer with three cases left and $100 as the second-highest case, but opened the $500K case next. Kate won the $100 in her case #9.

Week 28 (March 23rd) of Syndicated Deal or No Deal was Teachers Week. All the contestants were teachers, and the money board had a chalkboard and eraser design. Nice touch.
There was one big winner ($91K) and one person who stopped with eight cases left and the top two cases still in play.

Picking A Case
Was once the beautiful Case #9, but then who knows. NBC might bring back the primetime version.

Sadly, here in Cleveland, my CBS affiliate (WOIO-TV 19) pre-empted "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" & "Deal or No Deal" (Teachers' Week) for CBS Sports early primetime coverage of the NCAA/March Madness college basketball tournament. I have to tell you that my 2009 tourney bracket does not look well, even if I had Ohio State going all the way, but it is not going to happen.

I missed the Friday episode of Teacher's Week because it was pre-empted for the funeral of the four Oakland, CA policemen. "CBS Sports early primetime coverage"? So you missed DOND on both Thu/Fri two weeks in a row?

Week 29 (March 30th) of Syndicated Deal or No Deal was Visine-A Week. The $7500 case was replaced with a prize sponsored by Visine-A. A different outdoor activity prize plus cash was offered each day (camping equipment, golf clubs, Grand Canyon trip, patio furniture, or baseball game tickets).
$85K was the highest winner this week.
