In addition to being a DoND (U.S. version) fan since December 2005 and being a member of this board since March, I also want to salute my hometown of Cleveland's professional sports. Honestly, I am not your typical "sports nut" or fan, but this weekend, it is really something to talk about and share with all of you!! In basketball (NBA), it's the Cleveland Cavaliers, and in baseball (MLB), the Cleveland Indians. Boy, what a weekend this will be in CLEVELAND, as over 80,000 people pack Downtown Cleveland, local bars and restaurants, even while the weather is nice here!! It's so ironic that both Cleveland teams are playing Detroit's professionals, the Tigers (MLB) and the Pistons (NBA) respectively!!
Weekend starting 5/31/07 to 6/3/07
In Major League Baseball, in my hometown, the CLEVELAND INDIANS play the Detroit Tigers. I was there for a home game at Jacobs Field on Friday night, June 1st (BTW, good seats in left-side Field Box section). The game was LOCALLY televised by WKYC-TV 3 (my favorite local NBC affiliate). Losing to Detroit throughout 8 innings, Cleveland triumphed on base hits & home runs, and finally WON in the ninth inning!! After the game, the fans in the stands were all treated to a 15-minute FIREWORKS display set to 1970's music, since this weekend, the theme is "70's Weekend" at Jacobs Field.
Scores
5/31 vs. Detroit: 11 to 5 Win: CLEVELAND
6/1 vs. Detroit: 12 to 11 Win: CLEVELAND *I was at that game!!
6/2 vs. Detroit: 5 to 9 Win: Detroit
6/3 vs. Detroit: scheduled for 1:05 p.m. EST in Cleveland
6/2/07
Now moving on to the NBA, and the Cleveland Cavaliers are taking on the Detroit Pistons. Last year, playing against Detroit was heartbreaking!! It is GAME 6 of the Eastern Conference Playoffs, and the Cavs lead the series, 3 to 2 (in a best of 7 games). The venue is Quicken Loans Arena (a.k.a. "The Q"), the home court of the Cavs, and is right next to Jacobs Field in Downtown Cleveland. The game was nationally televised on TNT. If the Cavs win, they move on to the NBA FINALS to play the San Antonio Spurs in a best of 7 games. Losing Game 6 would send both Cavs & Pistons back to The Palace at Auburn Hills (Detroit, MI) for the critical Game 7, but that 7th game won't be necessary, because the Cleveland Cavaliers are GOING TO THE 2007 NBA FINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scores
82 DETROIT PISTONS
98 CLEVELAND CAVALIERS
After talking about this past weekend, it will be so great to be a sports fan, once again in Cleveland, Ohio.
